The state Public Service Commission says there are two choices. The first would consolidate what is called an overlay, implying that another region code will be superimposed into the current 518 zone.
The subsequent choice is a geographic parted. In one segment, clients would keep the albany ny area code . In others, another region code would be laid out. Clients with the new code would keep their ongoing seven-digit number.
Entrepreneur Bill Wildermuth favors the subsequent choice.
“I’m somewhat inclining in the direction of the geographic split, in that I thoroughly consider eventually down street a timeframe it will be more useful and less befuddling,” said Wildermuth.
Wildermuth said it would be more proficient for a business to keep the seven-digit number alongside its neighbors.
Cindy Trombley said another region code could give another territorial character.
“Region code 235 is unassigned. It very well may be alloted to this area. That means A-D-K. We might actually have a region code that tells individuals where we region and what our identity is,” said Trombley.
